Farm Frenzy

Tuesday, July 14th, 2009

So far, this offers nowhere near the amount of interest that Ranch Rush does, for me. I’m probably about 10 stages into it. You buy geese, they lay eggs, you sell the eggs. Wash, rinse, repeat. You eventually get upgrades to process your eggs, but so far, it’s just another button to press. Every once in a while, your geese run out of water and die, unless you refresh the water in time, which is more punishing than fun. The primary point of interest is when a bear shows up and you have to repeatedly tap on him to cage him up. Sometimes, I just sit back and watch him pummel the geese to death. This game probably isn’t as bad as I’m making it out to be, but they were unfortunate to come out right when RR did, which seems to have a lot more to offer.

Turbo Subs

This is another Time-Management game, similar to Chocolate Shop Frenzy, tap the patron’s menu bubble, wait for their order, cook their order, serve it, and then collect the tip. Screw up an order, throw it in the garbage. The challenge, as the genre title suggests, is to take mutliple orders at one time, without anyone getting angry and short-tipping you. There are a variety of upgrades, that are mildly interesting, but not as good as Cake Mania 3.

Emergency Dangerous: Fire Fighter

Emergency Dangerous: Fire Fighter

This is a wacky little app, in which the player must use their team of fire fighters to save victims from a burning building. Tap a fire fighter to choose one of four options: axe a door, extinguish a fire, heal a person, or rescue a person. Using the same fire fighter to complete the same action, in succession, to score multipliers. The gameplay is managing the different disasters, at the right time, with the right fire fighter. There are several upgrades you can purchase, including extra fire fighters, which is a no-brainer. It’s wacky and fun, with a great sense of humor (because, after all, people burning to death is Comedy GOLD).

Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam

Yummy Yummy Cooking Jam

A time-management game like Burger Island, but much better, much cuter, and with much more depth. There are four different restaurant types; hot dogs, hamburgers, pizza, and Tex-Mex ,each with their own ingredients and preparation methods. The gameplay consists of taking orders and then putting the right ingredients together, in the right order, and handing it to the proper patron. You have to cook the food first, oftentimes using gesture motions for chopping veggies and rolling a burrito, for instance, which adds a lot to the game. What really sets this game apart for me, though, is the charm. As you can see, it has an adorable and quirky Japanese art style. The Vikings giggle like little girls when you serve them a Coke, the little pig-tailed, vampire girls burp like truck drivers after their meal, and space aliens like mustard on their dogs. 48 levels of onion-eatin’ alien goodness.
